Some of us did deal with this in high school. This consolidation stuff has been going on for ages.
And if it was about more than pride, you'd agree that it was (unfortunately) necessary to change the schools.

Kids, please keep in mind: a public school system is in place to educate. Period. As it is, the education that Wise County students get is far inferior to most of the other school systems in the state.

Open your minds - want more for yourselves than just 'community &amp; school pride'

Pride gets you nowhere.

There is always going to be pride issues, which is why I dont like the pushing a school into another school. Its hard enough, but that makes it harder, I'll give you that.

Folks, you need to realize something. Some of you are lashing out at kids. Kids who's family probably went to the same school they are going to.
And face it your putting them into schools that are their rivals, a little consideration to them would not hurt.
They have feelings to.

JJ Kellys building is in worse shapes that Pounds.. none of the buildings are in great condition I see moving Pound to Kelly, Appy to PV, and St.Paul to Coeburn working for a minimul(sp) amount of time.. but new state of the art buildings must be built to fit the accomidations of the students.. It will work educationally and athletically.. there will be more class oppurtunites.. There will be more Althletic chances too.. for example.. Kelly has wrestling, swimming.. etc.. they have to travel to Va High, Chillihowie and such to compete.. If this happens all schools will have those same oppurtunities.. The question about redistricting would be answered.. a AA system moving GC back up. have PV/Appy, Pound/Kelly, St.Paul/Coeburn+Abington, Va High and Lee High.. move Burton to the black diamond and problem solved.. sure school heritage is a big deal.. but education and better oppurtunities are a much bigger deal.. with this way IMO only good things can come out of it.. Maybe the school board should think this out a little bit more they should probably take the Letcher County approach and build a new school in a central location.. but one way or another its goint to happen.. and it will be the best for the kids that attend the school.. School is all about education and I see this plan working..

Rocket come on man....think about the future...that's what people aren't getting...the future...coal is almost gone...something else has to stimulate this area...that's why there's an industrial park in wise...but these are only going to service a few jobs....kids are going to have to get a good education, go to college, and make something of themselves...or starve...without consolidation...you're heading into a hellhole

I don't really see anyone 'lashing out' per se.

I will say this though. I have no sympathy for a kid that sticks his/her fingers in his/her ears and goes 'lalalalalalala' when common sense is being used on them.
I'll listen and give them a chance if they listen and give me a chance.

The kids on here who are opposing it are doing so simply because they don't want things to change.

I agree, these kids are devastated, sure it may not seem like life or death to us but right now high school is their life.
